As per Hindu Mythology, Rahu and Ketu represent Sharvanu, the devil who drank the nectar generated from the churning of the celestial sea. Lord Vishnu punished Sharvanu by cutting his head off and exchanging the bodies of a serpent with that of Sharvanu. Thus, Rahu is the head of the devil with a body of a serpent and likewise, Ketu is the head of a serpent attached to Sharvanu’s body. They together represent the darker side of our nature, which we need to overcome.
