Merry Christmas

India is a country of unity in diversity. Our country is hued in many cultures, religions, languages and traditions. All these make our India versatile to imbibe all the values of different religions and their festivals. Festivals like Diwali, Guru Nanak Jayanti and Eid all are celebrated with great reverence. In the same manner, we are going to celebrate "Christmas" that falls on December 25th every year. This auspicious date has a special place in the calendar and is marked as a public holiday.

Christmas is celebrated throughout the whole world with great joy commemorating the birth of Lord Jesus Christ. One can feel the festive vibes long before the big day or Xmas. The markets are decorated with different sizes of Christmas trees, lights of various colors, all kinds of gifts and not to forget Santa Claus: unique dress and cap of red and white giving a special charm to this festival.

The houses are decorated with Christmas trees, beautiful lights and other decorative items. Delicious meals are cooked for the feast day and families enjoy these feasts and treats together. Gifts are exchanged among people as a mark of love and generosity. This tradition exuberantly spreads Christ's message of brotherhood and compassion towards one another. Through these gestures of kindness and piousness, the unity among different strata of society is amply maintained. In the vein of religious fervour many people offer church services. Different communities come together to spread the message of compassion especially helping those who are poor and needy. In reverence of Lord Jesus, carols or holy songs are sung cheerfully. The whole atmosphere becomes the time of celebrations on the birth of Jesus Christ, who died for mankind and atoned their sins.

This festival has a great enthusiasm among children. It would not be exaggerated if we relate this festival mainly to children and their love for Santa Claus. Small children eagerly wait for this day, as they get surprising gifts from their jolly good fellow, sweet Santa. It is believed that Santa comes on his reindeer sleigh with a sack full of gifts and toys. The hidden manner of Santa's giving gifts symbolizes the Lord's secretive and uncountable ways of giving joy in the life of mankind. This gives the message that God always blesses his children inexplicably. The faith of the small children becomes iconic for the human race to trust in God and the hidden secrets through which God compassionately regulates the whole world.
