The Holy Festival of Holi

The joyful festival of Holi has come to replenish our mind and body. So get ready to immerse yourself in the vibrant splash of colours on March 14, 2025.

This festival is not only known for fun and frolic but it remarkably signifies the victory of good over evil. The mythological story behind HolikaDahan, a day before Holi, explicitly proves the supremacy of steadfast faith over cruelty. The legend revolves around Prahlad, a true devotee of Lord Vishnu and Holika, the very embodiment of evil. Holika had a boon to remain unharmed by fire, so she took Prahlad by her side amidst the fire to burn him alive. But on the contrary, Prahlad was saved by the grace of Lord Vishnu and Holika was burnt to ashes. After that it became a tradition to celebrate HolikaDahan as a mark of triumph of uprightness over wickedness

The festival also prominently reminds of the profound love of Krishna and Radha. Krishna once complained to MaaYashoda for his dark colour by comparing it with the fair complexion of Radha. On the playful suggestion of Yashoda, Krishna applied colour on Radha's face to make both of them have similar skin tone. Later it became a custom to sprinkle colour on the near and dear ones as a mark of unity, togetherness and equality.

Holi is celebrated with different names in different regions. Whether it is the lathmar Holi of Barsana and Nandgaon, where womenfolk just joyfully hit men with sticks, or the flower Holi in the temples of Mathura and Vrindavan. The true essence of the festival remains the same, and that is equality among people of different caste, creed and religion. The get-togethers on the occasion of Holi, where people are seen rejoicing and savouring delicious delicacies collectively, fill everyone with the feeling of oneness, leaving behind all their misconceptions of the past.

Holi encompasses all the social, cultural, traditional and spiritual colours of life. It is the best time to socialize and enjoy togetherness. As far as its spiritual aspect is concerned, it always reminds one to adhere to ethics, steadfastness and positivity in all circumstances and not to get trapped in unethical practices and negative influences.

So, let us celebrate Holi with the true colours of pleasure, faith and righteousness. May this Holi burn all the gloom and negativity of our life and the splash of colours brighten our mind, body and spirit, making our life radiate the bright colours of Holi.
