SPICES : CINNAMON

Its Sanskrit name means 'bark', the part of this tree that is most useful. It is pungent, sweet and bitter in taste and hot in potency, but is sweet in post-digestive effect and therefore controls both vata and kapha without aggravating pitta, unless it is consumed in excess. It is less likely to aggravate pitta than is ginger, but still eliminates kapha. It is an ingredient in Sitopaladi Churna and its oil is used an application in toothache, headache and impotence (carefully!).
