Treatment Methodology in Ayurveda
Broadly speaking there are two major types of Treatments according to Ayurveda they are Shamana and Shodhana. Panchakarma the word which is widely used worldwide is a type of shodhana chikitsa.
1) Shamana (Pacifying Therapy)
Shaman or palliation therapy is one which is used to subdue the vitiated or disturbed doshas. From which any ailments may have arisen. In shamana chikitsa various herbo mineral preparations are administered to a patient which try to pacify the aggravated dosha in the body itself.
2) Shodhana ( Purification Therapy )
When vitiated doshas cross a particular level they give rise to various endotoxins also known as ‘Ama’ which block the various minute channels in the body also known as strotas and develop disease in the body. These endotoxins are beyond the level of pacification and hence they are required to be eliminated from the body with the help of shodhana (Purification Therapy). This shodhana therapy is highly recommended in chronic disorders to eliminate dosha as the doshas are aggravated a lot and also have reached till the minute strotas (Minute channels of the body).
