Vishnu represents all that is male and Laxmi, all that is female. Laxmi is enchantingly beautiful, and is standing on a lotus holding lotuses, with a lotus garland is called Padma, or Kamala.

She is worshipped in the images dark, pink, golden, yellow or white. What implies behind each of the colour is highly symbolical in its implication. If Laxmi is pictured as dark in complexion, it is to show that she is the consort of Vishnu, the dark God. If golden yellow, that shows her as the infinite source of wealth and this is the most popular image of Mahalaxmi with the skin of gold. Mahalaxmi, an aspect of Durga. She is shown with eight hands holding different items and each represent something. When Laxmi is worshipped in a temple, she is shown seated on a lotus throne, with four hands holding padma, shankha, amrita kalasha (pot of ambrosia) and bilva fruit. Her four hands signify her power to grant the (chatur vidha) four types of purusharthas (ends of human life), dharma (righteousness), artha (wealth), kama (desires), moksha (beatitude). The bow and arrow, mace and discus are added in the image of Mahalaxmi. If her skin is white, she represents the purest form of prakriti (nature) from which the universe developed. As she is the mother of all, the pinkish complexion reflects her compassion for creatures. Temples just for Laxmi are rare; she is complete with Vishnu or Narayana just as He is ineffective without Her manifestation. It is said that if one chants the 108 names of Laxmi, harmony and prosperity becomes the constant companions of the devotee.
