These guidelines for daily eating, which the U.S. Department of Agriculture developed, can help adults with their food choice. One serving of meat, poultry, or fish is about 2 to 3 ounces. People with small frames need fewer servings than those with large frames.
- Have 2-3 servings of milk, cheese, yogurt, and other dairy products, preferably low fat or fat-free.
- Have 2-3 servings of meat, poultry, eggs, fish, or such plant proteins as nuts or dry peas or beans.
- Have 3-5 servings of vegetables, with lots of dark yellow and dark green leafy varieties.
- Have 2-4 servings of fruit. Serving size: a medium apple, 1/4 cup dried fruit, 3/4 cup juice
